Just read that the Texas State Republican Party voted to endorse Reparative Therapy as part of their new platform. They apparently felt that trying to convince or “help” gay people not to be gay anymore was something they believe will help restore American values.
Now, I’m straight. Always have been. Always will be. But I was taken out of the gutter and given a new way to live by a gay man. Not just a gay man, but a flamboyant, happy, accepting, remarkable, unapologetic gay man, the late, great Donald M. He saved my life.
For 2 1/2 years he was the only person in the world I trusted. He never betrayed that trust. On the contrary, he taught me what really counted. Honesty, open-mindedness, civility, willingness to get out of myself and serve my community. That the thoughts and feelings of others mattered just as much as mine. He was my family. I will do my best to honor him until the day I die. The best man I’ve ever known.
So, Texas, I completely respect your right to offer therapy to repair something that isn’t broken. I respect your right to believe you are superior because apparently God has told you so and you must reach down into the depths of depravity to restore the sodomites to their proper state of being. I don’t know that this will have much of an effect on addressing the issues America faces as a nation or what really should be focused on; jobs, foreign & domestic policy and crumbling infrastructure.
Just a thought. Leave the LBGT community to thrive, as they do, and fix the potholes on my street. Shorten the lines at the VA and try to get the number of deaths due to prescription drug overdose below the number of car accident fatalities in this country.
There, I thought that was very civil. Donald would approve.
No. Wait. You guys are idiots! More work to do on that civility thing…
